JESSE STREINZ

A professional tradesman must understand the capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses of his tools. Award-winning artist Mr. Streinz applies this philosophy throughout his photographic process. Driven by his desire to create gallery frames free from conventional aspect ratios and traditional designs, he now aims to merge the roles of tradesman and photographer even further. He is currently experimenting with construction waste, which is typically destined for landfills, to craft unique frames for his photographic work. Mr. Streinz resides in West Branch, Iowa, and has exhibited artwork in New York City and Miami.

PATRICIA SHAHRIVAR

Patricia Shahrivar is a native Iowan who recalls visiting museums as a child and admiring the artwork of Grand Wood. In her youth, Patricia learned from her grandmother, an art teacher, who taught her the art of "chalk talk" and introduced her to the paintbrush. Throughout high school she took every art class that her schedule would allow. Later in life, with fond memories of her grandmother and a childhood engrossed in art projects, Patricia still longed to create. After years of dedication as a wife and mother, she then resumed her love of painting. Her interest in portraits, floral works, and landscape painting developed after studying under nationally recognized artists such as Dan Gerhartz, Loren Entz, and Jim Pollard. Patricia Shahrivar has received numerous awards for her paintings, including "Best of Show" twice from the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.

AUGUST KOCHANOWSKI

August Kochanowski is a fourth-generation blacksmith who lives and works in the heart of Central Wisconsin. He received his MFA in sculpture from the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, and his BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Mr. Kochanowski was chosen for the 2017 Fellowship at the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artist’s Residency in Saugatuck, Michigan; in 2020, he was the visiting artist for the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point; and in 2022 he participated in iron pour at the Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum in Solsberry, Indiana. Mr. Kochanowski explores the intersection of figuration and abstraction, a place where human presence is both revealed and fragmented. The two drawings submitted for exhibition depict portraits that appear fractured: cracks and fissures run through them, exposing a tension between the organic and the mechanical. Colorful yet deeply worn, these figures exist in a liminal space between structure and collapse, representation and disintegration. August uses the imagery of ruins as a metaphor for broader social issues. It may be about the erosion of identity, the weight of history, or the breakdown of systems that fail to sustain the individuals within them. The cracks speak to internal and external forces that shape us, questioning what it means to be whole in a world that constantly shifts, fractures, and rebuilds. Through this balance of abstraction and figuration, Mr. Kochanowski challenges viewers to see beyond the surface, to recognize both the beauty and fragility of existence, and to consider how personal and societal forces leave their marks on us all.
